Artistic Statement

I am an exceptionally versatile dancer who values technique, but I am always striving to explore all of the possible ways I can combine my training. I pull from the concept of “child at heart” in many aspects of my dancing. I strive to be as empathetic, joyful, confident, and free as an innocent child while incorporating my adult views, experiences, and opinions in my movement and performance.
I believe that if I can positively impact or connect with at least one person as a performer or choreographer, then I am doing an excellent and important job. I am making my contribution. Making connections with the audience, as well as other dancers or performers, is something I will always value.
I love learning new information and telling stories through my movement, but in a way that allows people to connect with me on their own personal level and in their own way.
I dance to fuel my soul, motivation, and creativity. I am incapable of being my truest self without dance. Dancing allows me to be anything I want to be, while empowering me to be my truest self simultaneously. Dance is my avenue for exploration, appreciation, gratitude, growth, and transformation. It is my Joy, my Love, and Me.
I am...
… an artist. A brave, yet sensitive soul. A hug that makes your heart smile. A song you cannot help but belt with your whole being. A fiercely loyal friend and ally.
… a truth teller. A rule follower. Honest to a fault, but always from a place of kindness.
… the chocolate in the trail mix. I am the little girl who would ask her mom for chocolate at 6 in the morning to add as much sweetness into her life as she possibly could.
… the little girl with a bucket, collecting shells at the beach, appreciating the beauty of each one she picked up.
… still a little girl, just in stature not age.
… intrigued by the experiences of others. I evolve and grow from my experiences. I come from my experiences.
… a foreign culture admirer. A world traveler. I am a worldy mover. I move because I love to. I move to inspire. I move to make a difference in someone's life.
… Christmas morning. I cherish the familiar traditions, but cannot wait to unwrap a new surprise. I find comfort in both the familiar and the unfamiliar.
… the girl with the long I am statement because I am indecisive and I tend to overshare.
… small, but mighty.
I am Kati Freeman.
